How online take-away has dominated the scene

A recent phenomenon related to consumer behaviour and take-away has been seen over the past years, and in particular, recent months. In the past, people would call to order take-out and typically pay in cash. In this article, we shall be discussing why the online take-away concept has dominated the scene in Malta.

Convenience
Ordering your favourite food from your preferred outlet through an online platform is indeed convenient, rather than having to wait till someone picks up your call, together with the room for any potential misunderstanding, resulting in a wrong order. Today, with a few clicks or taps, you will get your take-away delivered to your address in a short timeframe. Apart from the convenience of not having to get in touch with someone to answer your call, you do not need to hassle about not having the necessary amount of cash. With today’s platforms, you can opt to pay via credit card.
Pandemic

During the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, where people have been encouraged to stay at home as much as possible, together with the fact that some may still not be too comfortable to visit restaurants, online delivery orders spiked. This led to a number of organisations setting up to provide delivery services, accommodating both restaurants and consumers. In fact, it has become quite common to see motorbikes with riders wearing branded clothes of these recently established organisations. By downloading an app, you will have an infinite selection of restaurants to choose from and one can also opt to have the take-out delivered to the doorstep, ensuring no contact with the delivery person. Considering how the pandemic is progressing, it does appear that opting for online take-out, which is one of the safest ways to dine, will remain strong for the foreseeable future.
Considering the state of things, it does seem possible that we will see new businesses entering the fray of online delivery and take-out. The trend is quite successful at the present moment. Will it continue to be so in the long-term? Let us know your views in the comments section below.
