Should Donald Trump be Re-elected as President?

Looking at the statistics prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, many would have predicted that Donald Trump would be re-elected as President of the United States. Fast forward a few months into the COVID-19 pandemic and the numbers do indeed look grim for Donald Trump.
One of the most important functions of the United States President is to ensure that Americans are employed. Latest statistics show that the unemployment rate is now at eleven percent. This is combined with the fact that almost a hundred and ninety thousand Americans have died of COVID-19.
Things do indeed point towards a downward trend; however, Trump’s follower base does not seem to diminish, which keeps him competitive and in the running for re-election. In this article, we will discuss potential scenarios that could allow Donald Trump to be re-elected.
Economic rebound

Although many have argued against the reopening of the economy as the virus surged, there was a definite rebound, with the creation of a record-breaking seven and a half million jobs in May and June. Although numbers might not be as encouraging over the coming months, this can be used as a PR ploy which earns Trump points with those who are heavily dependent on a strong economy, and that is a lot of people!
Inaccurate polls

The polls do indeed portray a bleak outlook for Donald Trump. With that said, the polls in the last presidential election pointed towards a victory for Hilary Clinton. We all know that this was not the case. Analysis of these polls showed serious inaccuracies and perhaps failed to account for those who decided to vote for Trump during the final moments of the campaign.
A solid campaign

Donald Trump is known for his marketing prowess and ability to work a crowd. Although this year he cannot organise the usual rallies, you can still bet that he has something up his sleeve to create memorable moments. He also has experienced a campaign in the past as a contender, something Joe Biden has not.
Biden not having it easy

Biden may represent the pain that most Americans are going through due to the pandemic. He too has suffered personal loss. With that said, he is portrayed as representing the establishment and this does not appear too appealing for young voters. Considering the pandemic situation, he may be unlucky and many of his voters may decide to stay at home rather than queue in large lines to vote.
An October surprise

A week is a long time in politics and come October the situation might change. It is only natural to expect a sudden breakthrough in beating the COVID-19 pandemic as many vaccine teams are at loggerheads to push their project ahead of the competition. If Trump manages to use that breakthrough to his advantage, we might very well see him re-elected as President.
