In an unexpected turn of events, Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19. A few hours after his infection was announced, it was also stated that he was transferred to hospital. Although it still seems that the President’s health is in stable condition, reports have stated that complications may arise, considering his age and weight.
Donald Trump’s doctor stated that he is in good spirits, although fatigued. The overall message from Trump’s medical team is that he is doing well. The President has been treated with an injection consisting of experimental drugs and the antiviral medication remdesivir.
His infection comes at a very delicate time, just less than a month of the presidential election, where he will be attempting to retain his position against Joe Biden.
One would naturally ask, if Donald Trump’s condition is stable, why was he taken to hospital?
The statement reported by the news is that he was taken to hospital as an additional measure of caution. With that said, his symptoms include fever.
There are also other people who have tested positive, that are part of Donald Trump’s team. His close aide Hope Hicks, his campaign manager Bill Stepien, former White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway and Republican Senators Mike Lee and Thom Tillis have tested positive together with Donald Trump.
With respect to communication made by the President, a short video was posted on Twitter, with Donald Trump stating that he is doing very well and also working to ensure that things remain fine. He also mentioned that his wife Melania is doing very well, before thanking his viewers.
His children have praised Trump’s warrior like mentality, with Donald Jr stating that his father is obviously taking the infection very seriously.
The treatment taken by Trump is still in experimental phase and is yet to be approved by regulators. There is still a lot of optimism surrounding this treatment, however doctors have expressed their surprise that this is being used on the President.
Only time will tell how this ailment will impact the President’s election bid. Will he manage to turn the tide in his favour? Will the media feature Biden less in view of Donald Trump’s current illness? In what state will Donald Trump be in once he is no longer infected?
