Popular Cartoons for Nineties Kids

For those who are now nearing their thirties, cartoons will be looked at with a sense of nostalgia. For many, these cartoons served as an integral part of their childhood and will be remembered fondly. In this article, we will discuss some of the cartoons which were very popular with kids in the nineties.

Courage the cowardly dog
One of the best cartoons in the nineties, no doubt! The episodes of this series revolve around Courage, a dog who lived with an elderly couple. They used to live in the middle of nowhere, away from neighbours and would regularly be haunted by different creatures, ghosts and other entities which were indeed scary. Although Courage was immensely afraid of these different entities, somehow he would always find a solution to save both Eustace and Muriel. Viewers are made to sympathise with this cowardly dog as he goes to extreme lengths to save his loved ones. Some had argued that the show was not that ideal for kids, considering some dark elements which might have scared them or even given them nightmares!

Dexter’s Laboratory
This show revolved around a kid genius who was very much into science. The extent of this can be underlined by the fact that he had a hidden laboratory within his parents’ house. The laboratory was of an astronomic size and he used to undertake wild experiments. Foiling his plans and quest for knowledge was his annoying sister Dee Dee who was intellectually inferior and served the role of an irritating sibling.

Scooby-Doo
An all-time legend! Scooby-Doo is a timeless cartoon and every time you watch one of the episodes, nostalgia kicks in. The show is about a gang that solves mysteries. Central to the mystery solving is Scooby Doo, a loyal dog committed to the gang and a successful outcome. The superior level of this cartoon series can be appreciated because of its long-time relevance, where the show is still popular till this very day.

The Powerpuff Girls
This was also quite a popular cartoon back in the day. The episodes revolved around three girl superheroes who were created by a professor in a laboratory. These girls protect the city of Townsville against prominent villains that threaten its existence. They are a reference point for the entire city, where the mayor constantly calls them to solve issues relating to criminality.
The nineties were indeed good times for cartoons. Any other shows you would like to mention? Let us know in the comments section below.
