Crisis in the Monarchy

You would think that anyone who was born into the royal family has it easy. I mean, being an heir to royalty does have its benefits, one of which being that there would be no issue related to lack of wealth. Many can only dream of being as fortunate, of having their whole life laid out in front of them on a silver platter.

Over the past few days, crisis seems to have hit the monarchy. It was announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided to step down from their roles as senior royals. It is said that this decision follows several months of unhappiness due to being under the spotlight. It is reported that Meghan Markle is desperate to escape royal life.

Although the decision by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was made public without warning, it is not to be taken as a big surprise. The couple had already indicated that it was facing struggles which spurred suspicions that they would step down. Rumour has it that Meghan Markle felt that the royal confines were just too much.

It was reported by the media that Meghan was afraid that she could not serve her role as a mother effectively within the confines of the royal family. She feared that Archie would be impacted by her stress and anxiety. It is stated that Meghan felt that the environment was toxic.

It seems that the couple has set its eyes on Canada as Meghan has several plans she wants to fulfil. She seemed to be more tranquil in Canada and visited women’s charities there. It also seems that the couple intends to settle in Canada with Meghan expected to never return.

Apparently, the aides of the Queen have been working on the exit agreement with an announcement expected very soon. The statement will underline the terms and it is indicated that the Queen wishes these to be announced at the earliest.

Issues underpinning the agreement include security, titles and future finances.

Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle regret this decision? Who is to say whether this decision will benefit them in the long-term? On the other hand, what will this mean for the royal family? Will this create a precedent where other members may opt to leave? Considering this departure, will the royal family’s reputation be permanently impacted?
