5 Things to do to get rid of Stomach Pain

Stomach pain is such a common symptom and can be triggered by so many things that it may be quite difficult to know exactly how to treat it. In this article, we will discuss some of the things you can do, if you wake up with a stomach ache.

Head to the bathroom

We thought we’d start with one of the most obvious first. If you feel stomach pain when you just woke up from bed, you should head to the bathroom. This is especially so if the pain is in the lower abdominal area which could be a sign of irritable bowel syndrome. Visiting the bathroom could help with relieving you for the rest of the day.

Ask your friends if they feel the same

Had a night out with some friends? It could be that the food or drinks consumed did not agree with you. It would be good to ask the friends you went out with whether they feel the same or not.

Ask a doctor for advice

Considering that stomach pain may be triggered by a number of things, it would be good to seek the advice of a doctor, especially if the pain is consistent or getting worse. A doctor will suggest the appropriate course of action and if any further tests are required. Definitely seek the advice of a doctor if your stomach pain symptoms lead to vomit or diarrhoea. You should also do this if your stomach pain makes you feel light-headed.

Breakfast

The natural inclination when someone wakes up with stomach pain would be to avoid breakfast altogether. This does not need to be the case. Opt for a healthy breakfast by steering away from oil and grease, which are bad for digestion. So avoid the English breakfast as it is likely to make your stomach pain worse.

Skip the coffee

The stomach pain you may be experiencing can be due to acid reflux. If this is so the case, coffee and caffeine should be avoided. Coffee may make the intestines work harder, hence when coupled with stomach pain, could lead to diarrhoea. Coffee could be the trigger behind your stomach pain. Although it would be difficult to eliminate it completely, try avoiding it for a few days and see if the pain subsides. With that said, if you are constipated or bloated, coffee is an ideal solution to get things moving.
