5 Tips to Prepare for winter

Malta is synonymous with beautiful summer weather and compared with other countries our winter is not that hard. When comparing with other countries whose temperatures go below zero, we really don’t need to complain that much. With that said, as we progress towards the end of September and the weather is becoming cloudy and rainy, we can only feel that winter is starting soon. This is underscored by the fact that many weather sources are now reporting that summer is coming to a close. In this article, we discuss some of the things you will need to prepare in anticipation of winter.
Home maintenance

Did you check your roof for any cracks? As winter and rain slowly approach you need to make sure that any cracks are tended to as you may have water seeping through your walls, thus requiring maintenance, incurring you extra costs. Also make sure that your gutters are cleaned. If they are blocked, rain water cannot be dispensed, hence can cause problems to your roof as well.
Prepare your home
As winter approaches you may need to include some carpets in your main areas together with thicker curtains to block and diminish the effects of the cold. You would also need to upgrade your bed sheets to thicker ones, so that you can get a better night’s sleep as the rain pours and lightning strikes.

Go through your wardrobe
With winter soon approaching you need to make sure that your wardrobe is well-equipped for it. Is your winter attire up to scratch or do you need new clothes? Are your coats and jackets still in fashion?

Check your heating facilities
Another good idea would be to ensure that your heaters are serviced before the cold actually starts. For some months you will need the heat and making sure your fireplace is working as expected is ideal so that you don’t feel the cold in your living room.

Umbrella
We all forget this at some point. Make sure to have an umbrella stored in the back of your car, especially if you need to walk from and to different points, like your parking spot to work and vice versa. You do not want to endure going to work drenched in wet clothing!
