Self-Driving and Electric Cars are the Future

Self-driving and electric cars are currently the topics of discussion for various parties in the car industry. In the wake of governmental action and legislation to reduce CO2 emissions, automakers around the globe are currently working hard to develop cars that run on renewable energy, rather than fossil fuels.

If you are currently in the search for a new car, you may be considering to purchase one that runs on petroleum rather than electricity. Let’s face it, the trill a petrol or diesel engine gives us will be a long-gone topic in a decade or so.

However, trills and frills aside, In this article, we shall be discussing the advantages of having a self-driving and electric car.

To begin with, not all the electric cars are self-driving, and not all self-driving cars are electric, however, automakers are working to develop a combination of both. Electric cars are already available in the market. Self-driving cars, on the other hand, are still in the testing phase and automakers do not know for sure when these will be available to consumers. Electric vehicles are propelled by electric motors, using energy stored in rechargeable batteries. Self-driving cars are vehicles in which human intervention is not required, and are created to safely operate on their own. Self-driving cars operate through sensors and software which include an internal map of the surroundings, enabling the vehicle to take control, navigate and drive.

Specialists project that the development of electric and self-driving cars eliminate traffic accidents, reduce pollution and decrease the number of deaths or injuries on the road. This is in view of the fact that they take over limited parts of the driving task, such as advanced emergency braking to help avoid collisions. These vehicles are also able to connect to the internet to provide drivers with information on the road, traffic and weather conditions.

One of the positives of having an electric car as opposed to a gas-powered one is that these are eighty per cent fuel-efficient and fuel cars are only twenty per cent fuel-efficient. Auto experts ensure that these are more environmentally friendly, as they produce thirty per cent less in carbon dioxide emissions.

Electric cars require a total amount of eight hours to be fully charged. These can be charged at any time, however preferably this is done during the night as the demand for electricity is lower. Charging your vehicle during the night is also cleaner and less expensive.

On the other hand, self-driving cars could also transform the lives of persons suffering from a disability or older people who find it tough to use public transport. A self-driving vehicle offers a greater level of independence for disabled people, also to those persons who suffer from vision and hearing impairments. Self-driving cars are also proving to improve the quality of life of people suffering from health conditions.
