Michela Pace – Malta’s next contestant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019

On the 26th January 2019, Michela Pace was announced as the first winner of the X Factor Malta. The purpose of the show was not only to attract new Maltese talent but also to be used as a platform for the selection of Malta’s entrant to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. As the winner of the X Factor Malta, Michela was also given a record deal with Sony Music Italy.

When she first auditioned for the X Factor Malta, she immediately attracted the attention of the Maltese judges including that of X Factor Global. She was eventually chosen to be a contestant, where she formed part of the ‘Girls’ category, alongside Nicole Frendo who ended up in third place, Kelsey Bellante, Danica Muscat, Jade Vella and Karin Duff. Throughout her time on the show, Michela’s talent shined through week after week, especially in the live performances. One specific performance which will remain imprinted in the minds of many is when she sang ‘Perfect’ together with Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja.
On the 10th March 2019, PBS launched for the very first time the song which will represent Malta in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel. The song goes with the name ‘Chameleon’. This was written and composed by Joacim Perrson, Paula Winger, Borislav Milanov and Johan Alkanas altogether known as the Symphonics. The music video of Chameleon was recorded in Vienna, Sweden and Malta, but was entirely shot and produced in Malta. PBS commented that this time their intention was to showcase something different for Malta, something more modern. PBS described Chameleon as being an edgy, and up-tempo song with Reggaetone and Cuban undertones.

The first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest shall commence on the 14th May 2019, followed by the second semi-final on the 16th May. Michela will be performing in the second semi-final, singing in the eleventh place. In order to be able to participate in the grand finale of the 18th May, Malta needs to secure a place as one of the ten semi-finalists.
Prior to leaving for the Eurovision Song Contest, Michela will be having two concerts on the 27th and 28th April respectively. The concert of the 27th April shall be held in Café del Mar in Qawra and the other shall take place at the Grotta, in Gozo.
Michela, we wish you the best of luck. We are sure that whatever the outcome you will most definitely give your best and make Malta proud!
