Now that the deal is sealed, it is confirmed that Jeff Bezos exits this marriage still as the richest man alive today.
The details of their divorce have been revealed on Twitter, amidst an avalanche of speculation related to the net worth detriment for Jeff Bezos and the future of Amazon itself. In a tweet, his ex-wife stated that Jeff Bezos will retain seventy-five percent of their Amazon stock with voting power and control of her shares. This cements his status as the world’s richest man with a net worth of over a hundred and ten billion dollars, being followed by Bill Gates who has a net worth of ninety-nine and a half billion dollars, according to Forbes.
In her tweet Mackenzie Bezos stated that she was pleased to give Jeff all her interests in the Washington Post and Blue Origin. The latter being Jeff’s space exploration company whilst the Washington post was acquired by him for two hundred and fifty million dollars in 2013.
Jeff Bezos is expected to transfer around four percent of Amazon’s stock to MacKenzie, which equates to almost thirty-six billion dollars. It is not only Jeff Bezos who is leaving the marriage in a financially supreme state, but also MacKenzie who is one of the richest women in the world, ranking just behind Alice Walton and Francoise Bettencourt Meyers. According to Forbes, MacKenzie is now the twenty-sixth richest person on the planet.
You would expect that in a divorce where so much money is involved, things would turn out messy, however, this is far from being the case, so it seems. Speaking about his ex-wife, Jeff Bezos highlights that he is grateful for her support and kindness, looking forward to their new relationship as co-parents and friends. The details on how their property assets are to be split are yet to be divulged. Together they own six large properties in the United States, according to the Business Insider.
